The despatch box

We're you thinking what the Conservatives were thinking? Did you believe the Lib Dems were the real alternative? Is Labour moving forward not back? This blog will focus on all things political. It will be irritating, agitating and maybe just maybe it will get you thinking.

Schools out for Summer!!!

Parliament goes into its somewhat lengthy recess at the end of business today. The length of summer recess has provoked some commentators to raise questions about how hard MP's work - but the bigger scandal is today's announcement that the Government has published 65 written statements - meaning there will be no scrutinty (apart from in the press) as to what the Government is doing.

One of the first tasks of the new Conservative leader (whoever that may be) will be to call the Government to account at morning noon and night!

Ahhh - I've deferred success in getting elected to Parliament

Has the world gone mad? Is the politically correct brigade taking over the world. Apparently the word failure shouldn't be used in schools any more. Why you may ask? Perhaps it damages the self esteem of pupils.

Don't be so ridiculous. In life you succeed in some things and you fail in others - and hope your successes outnumber your failures. I didn't have deferred success in getting elected to Parliament in May - I failed. Man Utd didn't have deferred success in winning the title last season - they failed. Paris didn't have deferred success in winning the Olympics - and the terrorists that bombed London certainly didn't have deferred success - they failed to break the British spirit!

Failure isn't always bad - they say you learn more from your accidents and failures than most of the lessons you learn at school.

Come on - isn't it about time to fight back against this nonsense.

Sir Edward Heath

Media reports have indicated that Sir Edward Heath's health has deteriorated in recent days.

Im not sure that the BBC should be publishing a pre-prepared link to his obituary though! Lets hope they have the taste to remove it!

Byers the Liar?

Ex Transport Secretary Stephen Byers has admited lying to MPs over the Railtrack fiasco.

Apparently Mr Byers "can't remember the motivations behind" telling porkies.

Tut tut!

Tooth Hurty

Apparently everything is fine with the NHS. There’s no crisis in NHS dentistry. Hmmm tell that to my tooth which now apparently needs a root canal. It has taken me about 2 years to get a space with an NHS dentist in my home town – and on Thursday I finally had my check up.

Yes Mr Sheppard we think you need a root canal. Is the tooth causing you any problem. Well if you think a dull throbbing pain isn’t a problem – then no everything’s fine. OK – well come back in a month and w’ll sort you out – in the meantime just take some painkillers. Unless of course you want to pay about £300 and have it done privately.
Remind me Mr Blair how the NHS is safe in your hands!
